The Center for Youth Enrichment intends to change the perspective on today¡¯s urban youth, with Koreatown as its focal point. The current generation of Korean-Americans is the first true group of American born Koreans, with parents usually hailing from overseas. The situation has created a cultural dissonance in which the two generations seem to clash frequently. Values have been misconstrued and a general sense of distrust seems to be brewing against the youth. But instead of demonizing these teens, the community must work together to solve this condition.

Our project is committed to providing a safe, cooperative environment in which students from any economic or familial background can foster a healthy sense of character and service. Through academic pursuits, community involvement, and a nurtured sense of initiative, participants can build camaraderie and pride for their city while bolstering their own chances for higher education. The project aims to create a better image of our city¡¯s youth while encouraging young people to take charge in establishing a better future for themselves.

The program will initially provide classes in SAT preparation (both math and English), college admissions assistance, and general counseling. Full class sessions will be held
regularly, but students can also have individual meetings for additional help. Ideally, students will take part in volunteer activities that will be made available to them as well Although CYE seeks to help any student as much as possible, we expect all participants to be active and fully committed to progress.
